For the 5th edition of Design Miami/ Basel, the Galerie Patrick Seguin is delighted to present an outstanding and unprecedented ensemble by CHARLOTTE PERRIAND. This set of furniture comprises a magnificent 36 feet wall bookcase and a large 19 5/8 feet sideboard. These two unique pieces were specially commissioned for a house in Nancy built in the 60s, the façade of which was designed by the architect André Wogenscky (1916-2004), a follower of LE CORBUSIER. It represents an extraordinary example of the period’s taste and spirit; indeed, the development of this house reveals the desire to plan an entire project, by taking into account the interaction between the architecture and the furniture components. So, this strikingly large scale block bookcase by Charlotte Perriand was conceived in regard of the living room proportions, but it also reflects the geometrical aspect of the façade conjured up by Wogenscky to which it responds. The long sideboard by Charlotte Perriand emphasizes the perspective created by this set, its coloured partition punctuates the amplitude of this construction. The choice of the different furniture elements, like the six large Saturne wall sconces by Serge Mouille, which complete this set, results from a concern for coherence and striking modernity.
